Dr. Bates, a family nurse practitioner and project manager, is passionate about providing healthcare for vulnerable populations and believes healthcare is a right for all. Currently, she provides technical assistance for substance use prevention programs throughout the U.S. as a TA Program Manager with the Washington-Baltimore HIDTA/ADAPT Division. She also manages federally funded integrated care grants in Virginia and West Virginia. Previously, she staffed an interdisciplinary free clinic where students learned to provide evidence-based healthcare, utilize telehealth, and address social determinants of health while caring for an uninsured patient population including people who were immigrants and refugees and people with mental illness and substance use disorders. She is also a PhD student researching sub-cultural experiences of adolescent opioid use and a LEAP Scholar (2022-2023) interested in collaborating with researchers.
