Positions

As the Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation at George Mason University (Mason), I serve in a leadership role and active development and implementation of the University strategy to grow a strong multidisciplinary research ecosystem. I oversee and provide provide leadership for research development programs, and university-based centers and institutes including. I have been actively involved in leading Mason’s Multidisciplinary Research (MDR) and Transdisciplinary Center for Advance Study competitions and monitor the interim and final reporting for all funded projects and currently serve as the PI for the JCOIN Rapid Innovation Grants Core of the JCOIN CTC (PI: Taxman). Prior to joining Mason, I directed a program of research on substance abuse prevention and behavioral health interventions, serving as Principal Investigator, Project Director, or Senior Research Scientist at ISA Associates on a number of research projects supported mainly by NIH grants. My early work at ISA included serving as a Senior Scientist and Project Direct on two multisite national evaluations of federal initiatives: Department of Justice evaluation of the Weed and Seed program and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) evaluation of the Community Partnership Program Evaluation, which involved working with dozens of communities across the US. My more recent research focused on the development and test of web-based substance abuse prevention and behavioral health interventions. I served as Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator, Project Director, or Senior Research Scientist on dozens of research and development projects addressing a myriad of public health issues. These health issues include alcohol and illicit drug use, prescription drug misuse, HIV and sexual health, medication adherence, stress management, cardiovascular health, physical activity, nutrition, and healthy aging.
