Positions

Dr. Bryan Lee Miller is a professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice at Clemson University and faculty scholar at the Clemson University School of Health Research (CUSHR). His work has evaluated drug abuse, probation practices, offender reentry, deviant peers, and drug treatment. He has worked on projects funded by the United States Department of Justice to reduce the number of individuals with mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders in jail, evaluate veteran treatment courts, design law enforcement led initiatives to respond to individuals with mental illnesses, and support justice led programs to implement evidence-based practices to reduce substance abuse. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles as well as the book Emerging Trends in Drug Use and Distribution (2014, Springer). He served as the 49th President of the Southern Criminal Justice Association, Past Chair of the Drug and Alcohol Research Section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, is an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Criminal Justice, member of the editorial boards for Corrections: Policy, Practice and Research and Journal of Veteran Studies, and a member of the Addiction Research Center (PRISMA health). He is a recipient of the 2019 Clemson University Research, Scholarship and Artistic Achievement Award, was a 2018-2019 Fulbright Scholar conducting research on emerging drugs and the influence of social media at Tampere University, Finland, and a 2022 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Outstanding Mentor Awardee.
