Research
research overview
-
Through collaborations with the Center for Criminal Justice and Social Research, his research focuses on exploring the connections between substance use and the criminal justice system. His applied criminology work focuses on substance treatment for justice-involved individuals, along with enhancing criminal justice collaborations for diversion and deflection strategies. Through projects funded by the Department of Justice (DOJ), he provides technical assistance and evaluations for treatment courts including drug courts, veteran courts, co-occurring disorders courts, and family treatment courts, along with law enforcement-led initiatives to improve responses to individuals with mental health disorders, and justice led programs to implement evidence-based practices to treat substance use and divert individuals from the criminal justice system. He continues to partner with law enforcement agencies, courts, correctional agencies, substance treatment providers, and prevention programs to seek funding to evaluate and advance evidence-based practices.
